Conclusions

  1. 1.

From an analysis of cutter-ground interaction schemes, a general scheme is derived that covers all possible positions of the cut relative to contiguous and distant open side walls.

  2. 2.

According to the linear formula of the effect of unblocked contiguous and distant open side walls, an analytic expression (10) is derived for evaluating the cutting condition coefficient μ as a function of the semiblocked cutting coefficient μsb and geometric parameters characterizing the relative position of the cut and open side walls (l o, hb, hc).

  3. 3.

Analytic expressions are derived for the coefficient μsb as a function of the chip width a and maximum distancel oth, depending on the cutting depth h, as h varies from 0 to 20 cm.

  4. 4.

Calculation formulas can be used to estimate the forces of resistance for various configurations of cutter-ground interaction.
