Abstract

A chemical separation procedure has been developed for the determination of about 50 trace elements in high-purity selenium. The method consists of two distillation steps, followed by a precipitation step. In the first distillation step the halogens, osmium, and part of the ruthenium are volatilised in the second the selenium is distilled together with antimony, tin, arsenic, mercury and germanium. Selenium is precipitated from the second distillate by reduction to the element. The whole procedure has been tested by means of radioactive tracers. Interferences from the selenium matrix with respect to the arsenic and bromine determinations are discussed.
