Abstract
The principal nuclear methods of the isotopic analysis of carbon, nitrogen and oxygen, involving activation by thermal or fast neutrons, charged particles and gamma photons, or direct observation of nuclear reactions produced by low-energy charged particles, are reviewed. It is shown that these techniques, although much less effective than mass spectrometry, have advantages for the treatment of certain very special cases. Numerous examples of applications, in particular to biological and metallurgical studies, are given.
