Abstract
Neutron activation analysis, coupled with the removal of radioactive sodium by isotopic exchange has been used to measure the concentrations of Al, As, Au, Br, Co, Mn, P, Sb, W and Zn in six samples of detergents. The average concentrations found were 99, 5.9, 0.06, 10.8, 7.0, 0.36, 22066, 0.85, 6.7, and 5.9 ppm respectively. The contribution of detergents to the pollution of municipal wastewater in Canada is negligible.
