Simulation of the soft X-radiation yield for plasma loads with the use of a 2-D snow-plow model

Abstract

The implosion of plasma loads has been simulated numerically with a 2-D snow-plow model allowing a description of the evolution of large-scale instabilities occurring in the process of implosion. It has been shown that these instabilities result in some part of the load dropping out of the acceleration process. Combined with a double-level radiation model, the 2-D snow-plow model makes it possible to describe adequately the yield of the K-radiation from the plasma column formed on implosion. The K-radiation yield predicted in terms of this model was compared to the results of experiments performed on the GIT-12 system.
