Abstract
In order to complement data obtained from earlier deep-sea studies on microbial transformations, similarin situ incubation experiments were done in shallow coastal waters. Compared to laboratory controls,in situ activities were reduced about 50%, in contrast to about 99% previously reported for samples incubated in the deep sea.
