Investigation of the energy-weighted lateral spread of superfamilies and Centauro events

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento C

Summary

We used an analitycal method to investigate the energy-weighted lateral spread of hadronic cascades initiated by one single nucleon in the atmosphere. We obtained good results for the cosmic-ray superfamilies Halina and P3′-C5-505, detected by the Pamir Collaboration, and the superfamily Big-event, detected by the SYS Collaboration at Mt. Chacaltaya. The same method is applied successfully to the exotic events Centauro VI and VII.
