Preliminary laboratory observations of nonlinearity electromechanic effects

Summary

When a moisture rock is subjected to elastic or electric oscillation, some disturbances of equilibrium in double layers formed in solid-liquid interfaces can occur. These disturbances cause the so-called seismo-electric or electroseismic effects. Consequently the moisture rocks showing these effects can be treated as energy converters. At this regard we made a first attempt to investigate the frequency response of some moisture rock samples to high-frequency electric and acoustic input signals. Some laboratory results showing nonlinearity electromechanic responses to high-frequency seismic and electric oscillations are reported. These results need further checks and confirmations but seem to be very useful to improve the understanding of the physical processes that occur during the preparation time of an earthquake.
