Abstract
A new approach is proposed for optimally locating extension wells when prospecting for oil deposits. The approach is based on combining different methods for measuring the coordinates of the extension points, subsequently constructing a smoothing spline, and arranging wells along this spline using the condition for a minimum of the trace of the dispersion matrix of estimates obtained by the least squares method (A-optimal plan).
