Summary

The preservation of domestic waste waters and effluents from sewage treatment plants has been investigated. The samples were analysed for: oxygen consumed by permanganate, 5 day-BOD, total suspended matter, nitrogen and phosphorus compounds. Recommendations for preservation are given: the best method is freezing; sulfuric acid is reliable for times of storage not longer than two days; chloroform is unsuitable as a preserving agent.
