Abstract

C-reactive protein in concentratios of 1–20 mg/ml induces the production of nitrogen oxide by mouse peritoneal macrophages attracted by peptone solution. Protein kinases A and C and RNA and protein production inhibitors abolish this effect, while inhibitors of the lipoxigenase and cycloxigenase pathways of arachidonic acid metabolism attenuate it.
