Summary

Permethyl monoamino β-cyclodextrin, a new chiral selector, has been synthesized and tested as a chiral discriminating agent in capillary electrophoresis. This agent is suitable for separation of both negatively and positively charged as well as neutral enantiomers. At various concentrations of permethyl monoamino β-cyclodextrin, stable electroosmotic flow was measured in a cathodic direction. Due to the high solubilizing power and low conductivity of permethyl monoamino β-cyclodextrin efficiencies of up to 600 000 theoretical plates efficiency could be obtained. This high efficiency resulted in baseline separations of enantiomers resolved by a separation factor of only 1.009.
