Abstract
The structure of the alga currently known as“Hemineura schmitziana” from the Japanese coast was studied with the materials collected from Hayama, central Honshu and Ojika Peninsula, northeastern Honshu, Japan. Observations show that the procarp of this alga has only one carpogonial branch. When other features of vegetative and reproductive structures were taken into consideration, it is concluded that this alga belongs to theDelesseria group as emended by Wagner, and should be included in the genusMarionella asMarionella schmitziana (De Toni et Okamura) Yoshida, comb. nov.
