Abstract

Some conclusions of irreversible thermodynamics are summarized. It is shown that θ, the rate of irreversible entropy production, is not minimized in the steady state. It is also postulated that multiple steady states are possible in nonlinear kinetic systems, giving rise to situations of possible biological interest. The necessity of examining particular kinetic models is mentioned.
