Abstract

A performance approach to improve the quality of roofing membrane performance is described in terms of levels of restrictiveness. Some current trends and problems in the U.S. of both single-ply and multi-ply roofing membranes are given. Performance criteria and evaluative techniques developed and proposed during the past decade for bituminous built-up and single-layer roofing membranes are presented in tabular form. Some current activities that the roofing industry is pursuing on both the national and international scenes to enhance the quality of roof performance by information exchange and standards development are described.
