Density of porous solids

Abstract

Methods are described for determining the true and apparent densities of porous materials, from which the porosity can be calculated. Potential sources of error are identified and discussed.

Résumé

La masse volumique apparente ϱa d’un solide poreux diffère de sa masse volumique vraie ϱt. On peut calculer la porosité si l’on connaît et ϱa et ϱt. On examine les principes des méthodes volumétriques de détermination de ϱa et de ϱt, ainsi que les diverses sources d’erreur, en particulier celles qui découlent de la saturation plus ou moins complète des pores et de la détermination précise du poids sec.
