The usefulness of a temporal correlation technique in the assessment of human motor performance on a tracking device

Abstract

The usefulness of quantifying a human subject's tracking performance by means of a temporal correlation technique has been investigated using a pursuit tracking device.

Three tracking tasks of varying degrees of difficulty were employed in order to test the technique over a range of performances. A crosspower spectral-density analysis of the results has aided in checking the validity of this method of performance assessment.

Ten subjects of various ages were investigated over a period of several months. From the results it was felt that this technique provided an ibjective assessment of motor performance that was both meaningful and reproducible.

L'utilité de quantifier la performance sur piste d'un individu, à l'aide d'une technique de corrélation temporelle fut étudiée à l'aide d'un dispositif de poursuite sur piste.

Trois tâches de piste de difficultés variables furent utilisées afin d'étudier la méthode pour une gamme de performances. Une analyse de densité spectrale à puissance croisée des résultats aida à vérifier la validité de cette méthode d'évaluation de performance.

Dix individus d'âge différent furent étudiés durant plusieurs mois. D'après les résultats, on pensa que cette technique fournit une évaluation objective de la performance motrice qui était à la fois significative et reproductible.

Die Nützlichkeit, die Verfolgungsleistung eines Menschen mit Hilfe einer zeitlichen Korrelationsmethode zu quantifizieren, ist mit einem Verfolgungsspuren-Apparat untersucht worden.

Drei verschieden schwierige Verfolgungsaufgaben wurden benutzt, um die Methode über einen großeren Leistungsbereich zu testen. Eine spektrale Dichtungsanalyse der Ergebnisse trug dazu bei, die Richtigkeit dieser Leistungswertermittlung zu prüfen.

Zehn Leute verschiedenen Alters wurden mehrere Monate lang geprüft. Aus den Ergebnissen konnte man schliessen, dass diese Methode eine objektive Wertermittlung der Bewegungsleistung liefert, die bedeutungsvoll und wiederholbar ist.
