Abstract
Our bioelectric battery, using a right endo-atrial platinum cathode which becomes the site of a reduction of the H+ ions, necessitated the use of a magnesium anode; in order to increase the reliability and the lifetime of the battery, a precise study of the magnesium corrosion was required.
The ‘zone fondue’ magnesium presents a good electrochemical behaviour by comparison with pure laboratory-grade magnesium (Mg R69) or pure industrial-grade magnesium, (Mg T.L.H.—Mg Domal). Its utilisation, however, in a bioelectric battery is debatable because of the presence of corrosion by very deep pitting. The pure Domal magnesium gave satisfactory resultsin vitro as well asin vivo.
The utilisation of the magnesium-manganese alloy seems preferable to the magnesium-aluminium. We chose the Domal magnesium because of the possible toxicity of the manganese involved in the magnesium-manganese composition.
Sommaire
