Abstract
The use of the Joint Interval Histogram technique for rhythm analysis of slow biological potentials is described. This technique allows the investigator to recognize relationships between adjacent intervals in long runs of temporal data. The mechanization of this method of analysis through the design of a new circuit is described. The approach offers flexibility; a wide variety of data analysis applications can be handled utilizing the JIH technique.
Application of this system to data analysis problems in gastrointestinal physiology is discussed. The system is especially useful in recognition of waveforms whose rhythm is determined by a pacemaker potential. The nature of the biological oscillation may then be deduced by comparison with JIH's constructed from analog computer models. Interpretation of various JIH plot patterns is discussed in relation to the diagnosis of the presence or absence of pacemakers.
Sommaire
