Summary

An electrical resistance strain gauge was embedded in the concrete during its casting to measure the internal strains due to uniaxial compressive loading. Details are given of the method of preparation of the strain gauge, embedding the strain gauge and comparisons have been made between the strains measured inside and on the surface of the specimen. It has been found that the internal strains were more than the surface strains.
