XRF analysis of sulphur in aggregates used in concrete by the addition of Li2SO4

Abstract

A method for the calculation of the sulphur content of aggregates used in concrete by X-ray fluorescence analysis utilizing Li2SO4 by addition is proposed. The amount of sulphur added is similar in concentation to the upper limit permitted in the Spanish regulation that controls the amount of sulphur compounds in aggregates. This enables a quick and easy test to be applied to check whether the samples meet the control standard. The method was tested for a series of cement, basic slag and fly ash standards.

Résumé

On propose une méthode de calcul de la teneur en soufre de granulats utilisés dans le béton par analyse par fluorescence X avec addition de Li2SO4. Le taux de soufre ajouté est similaire en concentration à la limite supérieure autorisée par le Règlement Espagnol fixant le taux de composés sulfureux dans les granulats. Cet assai, rapide et facile, permet de vérifier si les échantillons correspondent à la norme de contrôle. On a utilisé la méthode pour une série de normes concernant le ciment, le laitier de base et les cendres volantes.
