Summary
In 80 subjects the comparison of the dynamics in sitting position and in recumbency showed that the postural factors exert a significant influence on the reaction of cervical vertebrae on lateroflexion of the head and neck. The postural change from sitting to supine position tends to increase the incidence of the type II pattern, in which the values of tilting of vertebrae increase in caudal direction. This can be explained by a strengthening of the effect of nuchal traction component in consequence of a reduction of the action of the muscular component and the increase in the tension of the nuchal ligament. The influence of postural factors on the dynamics in the horizontal and frontal planes was much less evident.
