Summary
Whereas the arteriographic picture of glomus jugulare tumours is wellknown, that of glomus tympanicum tumours is less wellknown: bone changes of the middle ear are not constant, often difficult to interpret and non-specific.—The authors report three cases of glomus tympanicum tumours studied by selective angiography of the external carotid artery, and describe a new sign: tumoral stain in the middle ear projecting, on lateral films, in the external auditory canal: its usual radiolucency is replaced by an opacity resulting from the tumour contrast filling. Such an aspect is quite obvious with the subtraction technique and proves to be a very reliable sign: in the three cases, the glomus tympanicum tumour was less than 0.5 cm in size.
