Abstract
The interest in cast tools has grown for several reasons. In particular, the casting process provides effective utilization of various kinds of waste high-speed steels. However, successful operation of cast tools is possible only if we solve the problem of the elevated brittleness of cast metal. The present work concerns the special features of the structure and properties of a cast low-alloy tungsten-free high-speed steel 11M5F in comparison with the properties of steel R6M5. The results of a metallographic and a microstructural analysis of the cast and heat-treated steel are discussed.
