Summary
Clinical observations suggest that the circulation of the femoral head may be compensated through the vessels of the Lig. teres. The circulation of one side of femoral heads of rabbits was impaired by means of femoral neck osteotomy. The ischaemia ensuing after the intervention was followed up by P32 isotope measurements and autoradiography. The blood circulation of the femoral heads improved or normalised within 14 to 16 days. Since the femoral head was cut off from all other circulations by osteotomy, it is obvious that the compensation of the circulation could take place only through the blood vessels of the Lig. teres.
