The clinical engineering/health care mismatch: its effect on personnel management

Abstract

Despite health care's incredible dependence upon technology, clinical engineering has failed to make a significant impact in the control and utilisation of this technology. This is due, in part, to an inherent communications mismatch between engineering and the other health care professions. Such a mismatch not only continues to stifle clinical engineering's acceptance but also creates unique problems for the management of its personnel. Discussed are the root causes of this mismatch along with suggestions for its resolution.
