Sterile production and mechanical reliability of autoclaves

Abstract

The failure rate of a steam autoclave used in a hospital sterile-fluid production unit has been analysed by fitting observed breakdowns to the Weibull distribution. The results indicate a rapid initial breakdown rate which clearly represents an unsatisfactory situation for the pharmacy department trying to provide a consistent, reliable service. It is concluded that greater attention should be paid to auctoclave reliability if cost-effective sterile-fluid production is to be achieved

Sommaire
