Abstract

A programmable calculator has been successfully employed for implementation of computational algorithms for pulmonary mechanics to increase productivity by reducing calculation time.

The phase-angle and the zero-crossing methods of calculation have been compared and, although they have inherently distinctive algorithms and different calculation speeds, neither method possesses a distinct advantage over the other. The compliance and airway resistance values obtained in our laboratory by the two methods using the programmable calculator are fairly consistent with each other (correlation coefficient >0·93).

Sommaire
