Abstract
Great disparities exist between clinical engineering departments in various hospitals in the level and breadth of services offered, in the resources acquired to support the services and in the level of recognition and acceptance achieved. Some standardisation in the name of the department, its role, level of resources and budgetary analysis may lead to a better integration of those in this field as full members of the health care team.
