Abstract
An apparatus for the analysis of scattered laser light from motile human sperm samplesin vitro is described. The scattered light is converted to electrical signals by a photomultiplier and the signals resulting from Doppler effects due to sperm movement are analysed using a microprocessor. Autocorrelation functions produced by the apparatus are in agreement with theoretical predictions based on an accepted swimming speed distribution. Measurements on samples have been used to yield values of percentage motility and velocity of sperm which are in agreement with results obtained by other methods.
