Temporal and heart-size effects in first-heart-sound spectra

Abstract

Heart-sound recording are taken from human and animal subjects. Spectral analysis of small time segments of the first heart sound is carried out by means of a spectrograph analyser. Temporal variations in the spectra are observed during the first major component of the first heart sound. Peak energy frequencies in the medium frequency range (50–140 Hz) are observed to increase in successive spectra during the first major component of the first-heart-sound, and also with the decrease in the size of the heart from which the recordings were made.
