Abstract

Antioxygenic enzymes provide defense to the cell against free radicals produced during respiration. This study deals with the effect of propyl gallate feeding on antioxygenic and respiratory enzymes in liver of male mice of different age groups. Antioxidant increased the activities of catalase, glutathione reductase, ATPase and NADH-dehydrogenase significantly in 8-month-old mice, whereas the increase in activity in early and late growth stages was observed only at selective concentrations. The increased activities of antioxygenic enzymes on propyl gallate feeding may be attributed to an increase in the activities of respiratory enzymes.
