The effect of hybrid dysgenesis on life span of Drosophila

Abstract

The effect of P-M hybrid dysgenesis on life span was investigated by using three strains of D. melanogaster (Canton-S, Harwich-w and Malatya w.t.). F1 hybrids of dysgenic crosses developed on 29°C and lived as adults on 25°C produced unexpected white eye color in both sexes. In one type of cross, which has strong P element activity, it was found that hybrid dysgenesis affects longevity distinctly and shortens it, especially in the F1 produced at higher developmental temperature.
