A quantitative analysis of “negative liquid holding”, in some UV sensitive mutants of yeast

Summary

Negative liquid holding, the reduction in cell viability produced by post UV holding treatment in saline is shown by a number of UV sensitive mutants of yeast. This process was studied in two such mutants of yeast and the decline was shown to be independent of the frequency of pyrimidine dimers and in the case of mutant E9 was independent of the age of treated culture. The data indicates that negative liquid holding is the result of the reduction in the activity of an enzyme system involved in the repair of non-photoreactivable UV induced lesions.
