Very slow positive muons

  • Published:
Zeitschrift für Physik C Particles and Fields

Abstract

The present status and future possibilities for the production of slow (keV) and very slow (eV) positive muons are discussed. Particular emphasis is put on prospects for and open questions presented by the slowing down of MeV muons to eV energies by means of a moderation technique. The use of this technique to produce tertiary, tunable, low energy muon and muonium beams at PSI is outlined in view of the ongoing machine and beam lines upgrading program.
