Abstract
The temperature dependence of the electrical conductivity and of the Hall effect of molten Te can be explained quantitatively under the assumption that the transport properties are due to the free electrons only. The variation of the concentration of free electrons with temperature is given by the dissociation of the Te-chains; and this dissociation is calculated by means of the mass action law. The thermoelectric power has been measured from 460°C up to 880°C and found to be positive. A model for the transfer of charges from one ion to the next gives an explanation for the opposite signs of the thermoelectric power and the Hall effect.
