Abstract
The theory of magnetic impurities in metals is considered starting from the strong-correlation or ionic limit as a zero-order approximation. An appropriate model Hamiltonian is derived which includes collective intra-ionic structure and new kinds of mixing interactions between local and conduction electrons. The relation of the present approach to the Friedel-Anderson theory is discussed in some detail.
