  4. One must remember that on 24 June 1947, on the occasion of the condemnation of G. F. Aleksandrov's “History of Philosophy in Western Europe”, A. A. Ždanov, the son-in-law of Stalin, had addressed the philosophers in a well-known speech where he demanded more active and more belligerent work and, thereby, inaugurated a new period in Soviet philosophy.

  5. The logician A. A. Markov (b. 1903) is not to be confused with A. A. Markov (1856–1922), the theoretician of probability.

(Incidentally, the reference given by Janovskaja is false.) As we shall see, what has been said does not mean that philosophers are no longer interested in the question of formal logic — the contrary is the case.

  7. Already since 1946 A. V. Kuznecov has kept a record of the proceedings of the seminars in Moscow. A collection of the works of the Leningrad “school” was published as volume 52 of “Trudy matematičeskogo instituta” (AN SSSR 1958).
