Atomic Energy Aims and scope

Conclusions

The technological process developed for extracting tritium from lithium and the conceptual design of the SVPNMD column will be used to produce a system for testing experimental modules in ITER and is being considered as a basis for developing apparatus for extracting tritium in a self-cooled blanket of the Russian design of a demonstration thermonuclear reactor. Although the main parameters of the technological process and the conceptual constructional solution of the SVPNMD column have been determined to a first approximation, optimization of the parameters and construction are required in order to develop the technical project. For this reason, additional investigations, including the following, are necessary: determination of the quantitative separation factors for combined molecules LiT and Li2T under nonequilibrium conditions; modeling of the tritium concentration in a stream of evaporated lithium; and, modeling of the extraction of tritium from enriched condensate in a stream.
