Cooling the concrete aggregates used for construction of the Chirkey hydroelectric plant

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    Considering the subsequent structural finishing operations and with the necessary automation, the apparatus employed for air-cooling of the coarse aggregate at the concrete plant during construction of the Chirkey hydroelectric plant makes it possible to produce a steady flow of concrete at a temperature of +12–13°C during the summer period, even during periods of down time; these are the best indicaors obtained in the USSR.

     
  2. 2.

    Cooling of the sand or other additional measures should be taken only in cases where the temperature of the concrete mix cannot be lowered further.

     
  3. 3.

    In designing concrete plants for cooled aggregates, placement of the cooling equipment as close as possible to the service bins should be a prime consideration. The most rational solution is the combination of the cooling and service bins at the concrete plant.
