Abstract

Medium carbon steels were subjected to thermochemical treatments allowing iron-boron surface interactions to occur under very differing conditions. The reaction products were studied by means of surface Mössbauer measurements, X-ray diffraction and metallography. Thickness, phase composition, morphology and crystallographic order of the coatings were correlated to boron availability and base alloy composition.
