Effect of polyethylene glycol on the rheological properties of spun composites for fabrication of fibre biocatalysts

Fibre Chemistry Aims and scope

Abstract

The effect of polyethylene glycol on the viscosity and activation energy of viscous flow of molded composites was investigated. An anomalous increase in the viscosity of the system was observed when polyethylene glycol was added to the disperse phase of the composite for fabrication of FBC. The rheological properties of adsorption layers on the interface of the water and oil phases of disperse systems were investigated. It was shown that a change in the composition of the interfacial adsorption layer is the basic cause of the increase in the viscosity of the system when polyethylene glycol is added to the disperse phase.
