Conclusions
The new method of equalizing the loads on the bearing segments of umbrella hydraulic generators offers a number of advantages over the familiar methods, since during adjustment it is possible to analyze the causes of load nonuniformity and to eliminate them. In the presence of a bearing moment, moreover, the old methods require considerable time to produce satisfactory results; in principle, they do not provide for complete equalization.
Adjustment of the loads on the bearing segments by the new method does not change the slope of the unit’s shaft; these two operations can therefore be performed simultaneously; this reduces significantly the number of times that the rotating parts of the unit are raised onto the brakes and, consequently, also the overall length of these two time-consuming operations. It is necessary to note that the method under consideration requires certain skills in conducting the required operations.
