Abstract

Mössbauer spectra taken with and without applied magnetic fields showed Al in partially oxidized aluminous magnetites synthesized at room temperature to possess no obvious preference for either tetrahedral or octahedral sites at substitutions below Al/Fe ratios of 0.05. This trend changed at higher Al substitutions, when a preference of aluminium for the octahedral sites became apparent.
