Additional information

From the Editorial Board. The Editorial Board considers that special attention should be given to Professor R. R. Chugaev's proposal for the development of a unified method of calculating the stability of different structures (retaining walls, dams, earth slopes, etc.) and for the establishment of a unified general equation for determining the so-called general safety factor. However, the Editorial Board believes that for certain structures, individual methods of analysis can be worked out (provided that the limits of applicability of such individual methods are established). The Editorial Board appreciates receiving comments from the readers with respect to the problems discussed in this article.
