Towards a microscopic description of superparamagnetism

Abstract

An approach in which the superparamagnetic relaxation rate is obtained by calculation of matrix elements for microscopic relaxation processes is introduced. It appears that in general there will be a quantum contribution to the energy barrier which for small particles may be comparable to the anisotropy energy.
