A solid electrolyte potentiometry aided study of the catalytic reduction of nitric oxide by ammonia on a vanadia/titania catalyst
The reduction of nitric oxide by ammonia on a vanadia/titania catalyst has been investigated in the temperature range from 300 to 400 °C. The influence of both oxygen and water on the kinetics and on the oxidation state of the catalyst has been studied by combined kinetic and potentiometric measurements. A striking resemblance between the catalytic activity and the potentiometrically determined oxygen activity could be shown. The beneficial effect of water vapor on the selectivity of nitric oxide reduction is due to its influence on the oxidation state of the catalytically active vanadia phase.
