Summary
The morphological and biological characteristics ofTrichogramma australicum Gir., a parasite of the sugar cane borerProceras sacchariphagus Boj. in Madagascar are given with a description of the nymphal stages.
The influence of temperature and light on the life cycle, the fecundity and the productivity in breeding are studied. The superparasitism which always appears whenCorcyra cephalonica is used as host to breed theTrichogramma is analysed.
The discrimination between parasited and non parasited eggs, the research of the host, the annual variation of the natural superparasitism in the field and its influence on the sex ratio are discussed.
The parasite feeds indifferently on the vitellus or on the embryo of the host eggs so it is possible to use, for mass breeding, eggs ofCorcyra of which the embryo was previously killed by U. V. rays.
