Occurrence of mycoplasmas on the human conjunctiva

Summary

Mycoplasmas could not be isolated from the conjunctiva of 304 healthy and diseased human eyes. Whereas 7,9% of the same 152 Patients carried these organisms in their pharynx.

The antimycoplasmic properties of the tears are held responsible for the absence of Mycoplasma from normal conjunctival flora.
