Summary
Triethylenemelamin and actinomycin D produce at first extensive central cellular necrosis of the lens epithelium. During a second stage the lens epithelium regenerates and after one month it has a typical sutural aspect due to cellular accumulation.
The immediate effect of vinblastin is cellular necrosis, with simultaneous regeneration near the center of the lens epithelium. The very center of the epithelium does not regenerate after disappearance of the toxic effect. A pericentral corona of pluristratified epithelium is slowly buit up.
The anterior formation of cataracts and the cytologic changes mentioned above have to be compared with cataracts induced by toxic agents or resulting from abnormalities of carbohydrates metabolism, which are always associated with proliferation of the anterior lens epithelium.
Résumé
-
1.
